1. What is the best time for Lhasa to Kathmandu journey?
April to mid-June and Sept. to Nov are the best time for Lhasa to Kathmandu overland tour, regarding the Himalayan vista. If you happen to only have a holiday in summer like June and Aug., chances are that the Mt. Everest may be hidden by the dense clouds. If you are a lucky dog, you still have a window of opportunity to see it. While the landslide and downpour close Kyirong border on both sides can make winding mountain roads more treacherous. Please be extremely careful about the drive. If you travel on a budget, winter season from Nov to early Feb can be a good option since it saves you lots of money and you may enjoy least-crowded attractions.
2. What is the best way to travel from Lhasa to Kathmandu?
The most efficient way is to take the direct flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu, which takes only about one and a half hour. However, if you are not in a hurry, you are strongly recommended to enjoy a road trip from Lhasa to Kathmandu. Following one of the world’s most popular overland routes, you can travel beyond Lhasa to explore more of Tibet, like Yamdrok Lake, Gyantse’s Pelkor Kumbum, Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, as well as the splendid Mount Everest. 3. How is the road condition from Lhasa to Kathmandu?

Most part of the route is well-paved asphalt road, suitable for normal vehicles. Only for the side trip to Everest Base Camp, the 4WDs are required. And the smooth road will stretch about 820 km from Lhasa to Gyirong Port, the Sino-Nepal border. From Gyirong Port to Kathmandu, the road is relatively poor, being dusty and bumpy, for which it is suggested to rent an SUV for a comfortable drive. But this part only covers about 180 kilometers, and the scenery along the way is very beautiful.
4. How to cross Gyirong border when I travel from Lhasa Kathmandu by road?
The Gyirong border opens at 10 am each day and closes at around 15:30 pm. Usually, on the last day of your tour, our guide will drop you off in the morning at the border bridge. You are kindly required to walk on your own to cross the 50m-long border bridge, after all the immigration works are done. Our guide will just see you off at Chinese border side. Once you cross the border to enter Nepal side, you can get the Nepal visa upon arrival which takes about $30 per person. Remember to bring some passport photos.
5.How much is the flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu?
The flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu departs every day from Lhasa Gonggar Airport, and is separately run by Sichuan Airline on Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun and Air China for the rest days of the week. It takes only one hour and a half to cover the liner distance of 600 kilometers. The flight fare from Lhasa to Kathmandu will vary a lot in different periods. Generally, the cheapest days of a week to fly are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. And Sunday is the most expensive. And it is suggested to book your Lhasa to Kathmandu flight at least two months in advance to get a cheaper one.
6. What travel documents you needed to prepare for Lhasa to Kathmandu tour?
