1. Where is Mt.Kailash and how to get there?
Kailash is around 1300km west of Tibet, Kailash is considered the one of the holy mountain in the world, Kailash deserves your visit if you get a holiday around 13 or 15 days, for the road condition of western Tibet has been greatly improved in recent years. Most of the roads are tarred so that even cars and mini-buses are transitable and less time is spent on the road. and the NEW airport was established in western Tibet, tourists can fly to there within 3 hours.
2. When is the best time to visit Mount Kailash?
The best time for a Mount Kailash tour is from May to October. During the spring and autumn months, the weather is warmer even though it is still cold at the high altitude. With clear skier, strong sunshine, and dry air, it is favorable for someone to take Mount Kailash trekking and see the finest views of this region has to offer around the year. In summer when it comes to the rainy season, one can also visit Kailash and Manasarovar as it will not rain so hard in this region of Tibet. Winter could be an impossible time to visit Mount Kailash, since heavy snow will block the trekking trail and road to the mountain. It is also extremely cold at that time.
3. How to get to Mount Kailash?
As the most popular option among tourists, one can travel overland from Lhasa to Mount Kailash via Shigatse and Saga. The road condition from Lhasa to Mount Kailash has been greatly improved, and most sections are well-paved and asphalted. The road trip will be much smooth than you expect even though it is a long drive of about 1300 kilometers. On the way to Mount Kailash, you can also take in other must-sees of Tibet, like Yamdrok Lake, Everest Base Camp.
Alternatively, one can also get to from Kathmandu by overland via Gyirong Port. This is a shorter route of about 782 kilometers, but the first part from Kathmandu to Nepal-Tibet border is poorly-conditioned rugged mountain road. If there is no other choice but entering Tibet from Nepal, you can also take a flight to Lhasa from Kathmandu, and then travel the way to Mount Kailash from Lhasa.
4. Will I suffer from altitude sickness during Mount Kailash trekking?
Altitude sickness will always be a big concern for many tourists to Tibet, especially when it comes to the higher Mount Kailash region. The summit of Mount Kailash is at 6638m and the average altitude for trekking this mountain will be over 4500 meters, with the highest point at 5648m (Dolma La Pass). But there is no need to get over-worried, since it is normal for most people to feel uncomfortable after ascending above 3000m.
The key to avoid suffering from severe altitude sickness is to get acclimatized at lower elevation before you start your climbing. In this way, we suggest you spend two or three days in Lhasa (3658m) for a leisurely sightseeing, and then travel from Lhasa to Mount Kailash following the gradually rising altitude. Also, during the 3-day Kailash kora trek, it is recommended to drink more water and ascend slowly. Keeping yourself warm and avoiding getting cold is also essential. 5.What are the permits to prepare for Mount Kailash tour?
There are totally four permits one need to obtain for a Mount Kailash tour, namely Tibet Travel Permit, Alien’s Travel Permit, Foreign Affairs Permit and Military Permit. The Tibet Travel Permit (also known as Tibet Visa) is a must for any foreigner to enter Tibet and the prerequisite to obtain other travel documents for a Tibet tour. The other three permits are necessary for you to visit Mount Kailash. 6. Best Time to Visit?
The best time for Kailash Manasarovar pilgrimage is from May to October of every year, with the average temprature of 9.5℃, reaching up to 10-15℃ in day time, and lowering below to zero in night, with a large temperature difference between day and night. The area hardly rains, with few annual rainfall, though July and August are the seasons of rains (it's easy to see a rainbow arching across the sky). For the rest of time, you will enjoy the blue sky, white cloud, widely different plants, and May is the best time to see the most beautiful kelsang flowers.
7. What to eat during Kailash tour?
In some extremely remote places, tourists have to stay in tents or local monasteries, which might not be clean enough.there is also no fresh meat or vegetables in local and all the ingredients are from big cities like Lhasa and Shigatse. Therefore, the price for a meal is quite expensive. A very simple meal might cost 8 to 10 USD per person. For a breakfast, 1.5 USD for a cup of coffee and 3 USD for a cake, it is not enough for a quality breakfast, so our company may buy some bread, coffee, or milk powder from the supermarket in big cities to improve the poor breakfast.
