How to Get to & Get around Chengdu

Chengdu, a well-known transportation hub and tourist city, is famous for its extensive transportation system. Being the communication junction of southwest China and the gateway to Tibet, Chengdu is accessible from and to almost all the major countries in the world, which conveniently connected to over 100 domestic and international airports. By Air

Flights to Chengdu

As an important gateway city in the southwest China, Chengdu has served more than 60 scheduled flights to the major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xian, Lanzhou, Lhasa, Xiamen, Guilin, Kunming etc. The international and interregional flights include those to Hong Kong, Bangkok, KL, Tokyo, Seoul, etc.

In addition, you can take a flight from Shuangliu International Airport to Jiuzhaigou, one of the popular tourist destinations in Sichuan Province. During the peak season, there are about 7 flights to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu every day, which only take 45 minutes.

The second airport, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is scheduled to be open in the first half year of 2021, to serve most of the international flights to/off Chengdu.

✈ Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (成都双流国际机场 IATA: CTU)

• Address: Jichang Yinbin Road, Shuangliu District, Chengdu 四川省成都市双流区机场路

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is only about 16 kilometers from Chengdu downtown area. It is the major international airport serving Chengdu as well as an important aviation hub to western China before the operation of Tianfu International Airport. Many international and domestic destinations are connected with Chengdu for traveling to the hometown of giant pandas.

✈ Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (成都天府国际机场 IATA: TFU)

• Address: Lujia Town, Jianyang City, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province 四川省成都市简阳市芦葭镇

Located in the southeast Chengdu and 51km away from it, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport will be the second, and largest international airport in Chengdu. It is scheduled to be completed in 2021, which will make itself the largest airport in China’s west region and the nation’s fourth largest international hub. It will be linked with Chengdu city and Shuangliu Airport, by high speed rail, highway, subway, etc.


By Train

Trains to Chengdu

In Chengdu City, there are four railway stations offering thousands of rail lines connecting to other cities in China, and they are Chengdu Railway Station (Chengdu North Railway Station), Chengdu East Railway Station, Chengdu South Railway Station and Chengdu West Railway Station. You can take the high-speed train traveling to other popular China destinations, like Xian, Shanghai, Harbin, Guangzhou and even Tibet from Chengdu by train.

Chengdu High Speed Bullet Train

At present, travelers can get to Chengdu by high speed trains from Xian, Chongqing, Guiyang and Kunming in neighboring provinces and farther destinations like Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Guilin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, Shijiazhuang, Wuhan, Changsha and etc. Also, there are lots of intercity high speed trains tourists can take to get around Chengdu to visit Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei, Mount Qingcheng, Dujiangyan Irregation System, Dujiangyan Panda Base, Langzhong Ancient Town and other scenic sites in Sichuan. >>More details about High Speed Trains to/from Chengdu.


Chengdu Railway Stations

Getting around China by train is the most common way to get to the most cities, Chengdu included. Currently, there are four railway stations including Chengdu North Railway Station (also named as Chengdu Railway Station), Chengdu East Railway Station (the largest high speed train station in Chengdu) ,Chengdu South Railway Station, and Chengdu West Railway Station. Chengdu North Railway Station (成都北站 Pinyin: chéng dōu běi zhàn)

• Location: No.1 Zhandong Rd, Jinniu District, Northern Chengdu (成都市金牛区站东路1号) Chendgu East Railway Station (成都东站 Pinyin: chéng dōu dōng zhàn)

• Location: Qingyijiang Rd, Chenghua District, Eastern Chengdu (成都市成华区青衣江路)

Chengdu South Railway Station (成都南站 Pinyin: chéng dōu nán zhàn)

• Location: Northern Tianfu Avenue, Guixi Street, High-tech Zone, Southern Chengdu (成都市高新区桂溪街道天府大道北段)

Chengdu West Railway Station (成都西站 Pinyin: chéng dōu xī zhàn)

• Location: Jinhui Rd, Qingyang District, western Chengdu (成都市青羊区金辉路)


Get Around Chengdu

By Metro

Currently, Metro Line 1, Line 2, Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, Line 7 and Line 10 are under operation. Metro Line 1 links Chengdu South Railway Station, Wenshu Monastery and southern new city of Chengdu. Line 2 links Renmin Park with Tianfu Square, and Chasianzi Bus Terminal Station. You can go by Line 3 to Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, Chengdu Zoo, Wuhou Temple and Jinli Ancient Street, etc. for a Chengdu highlights savory. And Kuanzhai Alley, Dufu Thatched Cottage, Intangible Cultural Heritage Park, Chengdu West Railway Station, etc. are connected along Line 4. Line 7 is a circus line along the 2.5 ring of Chengdu city, and you can go to Jinsha Site Museum by this line. Line 10 is great to transfer to / from Shuangliu International Airport. Chengdu East Railway Station is easy to get to by Either Line 2 or Line 7. Tianfu Square is linked together by Line 1 and Line 2. And if you want to visit Chunxi Road, go by Line 2 or Line 3, etc. Besides, there are several metro lines under construction, and Metro Line 5 is said to be put into use by end of 2019. By Bus

Chengdu is the largest highway hub in Southwest China, where 6 national highways, including 108 and 319, meet. Many long-distance passenger stations in the urban area of Chengdu are going in different directions, including all the cities inside Sichuan province, such as Emei, Dunjiangyan, Jiuzhaigou, Leshan, etc. The bus stations commonly used by tourists are Chadianzi passenger station and Chengdu Xinnanmen station.

Location: #2 Xinnan Rd, Chengdu 成都市新南路2号

By Taxi

Taking a taxi is always the most convenient way to get around a city. In Chengdu, 9 CNY is charged for the first 3 kilometers for traveling within 15 km from 05:00 to 22:59, and 1.9 CNY for each subsequent kilometer.
