Located in the bordering areas of the Sichuan northwest highland and Sichuan basin, Chengdu has a subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by its early spring, hot summer, cool autumn and warm winter. Another remarkable feature of Chengdu climate is its high humidity. Therefore, although the temperature in summer is not high (the maximum temperature is generally no more than 35 ℃ / 95 ℉), it is sultry; in winter, the temperature is above 5 ℃ / 41 ℉ on average, but because of the overcast days, it is very cold. The rainfall in Chengdu is concentrated in July and August, with little rain in winter and spring and it barely snows.
Spring in Chengdu often comes early from the beginning of March and lasts long until early May. The weather warms up from winter, but there are frequent alternative changes, sometimes you may feel chilly in Spring. Chengdu's spring you can witness colorful flowers are blooming one after another, and trees and grass are turning green under the spring wind.

Every year, in March there will be a Peach Flower festival held in Longquan. And the best time to see the peach blossom is from late March and early April. Summer in Chengdu
Summer in Chengdu is both hot and rainy, starting from mid-May to early the end of August. The weather is sultry with lower temperature in early morning and evening, but hot during the daytime, usually about 35 C.
What to Wear
It is very sultry, and recommended to wear sun block shirt, sunhat, sunglasses, cotton and linen shirts, thin skirts, thin T-shirts and other breathable clothes for the day time and bring raincoat or umbrella always.
Seasonal Activities
To escape the summer heat, you can visit the nearby cool mountains, such as Mt.Qingcheng, Mt. Emei, Mt. Tiantai, and Mt. Siguniang or take a summer trip to Jiulong Valley, and Shunan Bamboo Forest. Furthermore, summer is also the season when Giant Panda are most active.

Autumn
Autumn usually starts from September and lasts till the end of October or early November. In the late of Autumn, the temperature drops quickly and there may be a lot of rain.
What to Wear
It is recommended to wear shirts, long skirts and thin sweaters, windbreakers, casual clothes, jackets, sneakers for the early autumn, and you may need to get wear more clothes to keep warm in the late October and November.

This is one of the best time to visit Chengdu, when the Ginkgo trees become golden in many sites here, such as Renmin Park, Wenshu Temple, Qingyang Palace, Wuhou Temple. The Autumn scenery at Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong are among the most beautiful in China.

Winter in Chengdu
Winter is from December to February, the average temperature is about 5 C. Due to the cloudy and moist weather, it feels very cold.

It is recommended to wear winter coats, leather jackets, down coats, woolen hats, scarfs, gloves, sweaters, snow boots for the chilly spring.
