Why travel from Xi'an to Tibet is is recommended?

It's convenient to get to Xi'an. Located in the central area of China, Xi'an is well connected with other cities in China. You can get to Xi'an by high speed trains from other tourist cities, like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu,Guilin, Chongqing, Luoyang, Zhengzhou, Kunming, Guiyang, Fuzhou, etc. For a quicker transfer, you can take flights conveniently from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Kunming, Changsha, Xiamen, Nanjing, Qingdao, etc. It is also available to take some international flights to Xi'an from Hong Kong, Macau, Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Nagoya, Fukuoka, etc.

If you want to travel along breathtaking Qinghai Tibet Railway, you can choose a train. There are 2 trains available, one from Shanghai and the other from Guangzhou, to take you from Xi'an to Lhasa. The Xi'an to Lhasa train takes only 31~32 hours, much shorter than the train travel from Beijing and Shanghai.

How to Plan a Tibet tours from Xi'an

Generally, it takes about 7 ~ 11 days to travel from Xi'an to Tibet. Apart from arrival day, you are suggested to spend 2 full days touring the highlights in Xi'an. What you can't miss includes 1800-year-old Terracotta Warriors and Horses, well-preserved Xi'an Ancient City Wall, Shaanxi History Museum with treasured collections and Muslim Quarter with various street food. Some travelers travel to Beijing - the capital city & No.1 destination in China first and stay there for 3~4 days before taking a high speed train to Xi'an.

As for Tibet, you can start your trip from Holy City Lhasa and then extend to Shigatse and Everest if time allows. It needs at least 2 full days to visit the landmarks in Lhasa, including Potala Palace and some important monasteries. Then you spend another 4 days traveling to Mount Everest – the roof of the world via Gyantse and Shigatse.

Xi'an to Lhasa Flight Information

There are several flights connecting Xian and Lhasa, including 5 nonstop flights and 2 direct flights with a stop at Xiahe or Xining. These flights are operated by Tibet Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Eastern Airlines which are all experienced airlines to operate flights on high plateau area. The earliest flight takeS off from Xian Xianyang Airport at 6:20 and the last flight departs at 20:25. The fly duration is about 3.5 hours. Because the altitude of Tibet is really high, you need more time to acclimatize to the altitude. It is recommended to take a morning flight, like TV9904, 3U8753 and MU2333.

Xian Lhasa to Train Information

There are 2 daily trains available to take you from Xian to Lhasa, including Z165 from Shanghai and Z265 from Guangzhou. Z165 departs from Xian at 09:30 and Z265 departs from Xian around 11:20. It takes about 21~32 hours to get to Lhasa.

2. Because the Tibet train tickets are quite popular, especially in peak seasons (from July to October), please make your enquiry at least 3-6 months before your departure date.

How to Get Tibet Travel Permit When Traveling to Tibet from Xi'an

As a common practice, we will deliver your Tibet travel permit to your hotel in Xi'an by express, 1-7 days prior to your departure for Lhasa. It is common to get the permit even the night or a couple of hours before your departure to Tibet. In some extreme cases, our staff in Xi'an will deliver it to your hand before departure at airport or railway station. As a Tibet travel agency, we have never failed to get and deliver the Tibet travel permit to our clients. Please feel rest-assured.

If you take a flight to Lhasa from Xi'an, the original copy is required, while if getting to Lhasa from Xi'an by train, a printed copy is enough. Your travel consultant will handle with it perfectly according to the situation.

Why you can't get the permit much earlier?

The Tourism Bureau only accepts the permit application that is used to arrive in Tibet within 20 days. Generally, it takes 6-12 working days to issue the permit after we get the photo copy of your passport and Chinese visa. The application time depends on where you travel in Tibet, about 8-12 days to get the permit if heading to Mt.Everest and Mount Kailash, and just 6-8 days if you only travel in Lhasa City.

After we get the permit in Lhasa, we will deliever the permit to you immediately by express, and it takes at least 3 days to arrive in Xi'an. Therefore, you will only be able to get the permit within 1 to 7 days before your departure for Lhasa.

However, your personal consultant usually ask you to confirm the tour much earlier, because the earlier you provide all the required documents, the earlier we can submit to Tibet Tourism Bureau and wait for your turn.
